Back in October of 2017, the Chesapeake school board voted to rezone six different schools in the area. The schools that will be affected are
- Hickory High School
- Great Bridge High School
- Hugo Owens Middle School
- Deep Creek Middle School
- Great Bridge Middle School
- Hickory Middle School
At the time there were four proposals on the table to reassign students in overcrowded schools to even the number in the lesser enrolled institutions. From those four proposals two were selected:
- One moves part of Hickory Middle’s attendance zone to Hugo Owens Middle, and part of Hugo Owens to Deep Creek Middle.
- Another moves parts of Great Bridge Middle to Hugo Owens; Hickory Middle to Great Bridge Middle; and Hickory High to Great Bridge High.
These changes will go into effect next fall when school begins in September. Since it is mid-march, the end of this school year is just around the corner meaning the peak moving season is just as close. The real estate industry in Hampton Roads is currently booming, and it is definitely a seller’s market. Buyer demand is high, and the inventory is low. With this sudden rezoning, it is expected that some families will be interested in moving to stay in their current district or to change from the one they are scheduled to be assigned too. If you fall into this category, it is our recommendation you start looking now! Most homes are receiving multiple offers meaning losing out on a property is possible.
Don’t wait before it is too late! You don’t want to miss your opportunity to find a home you love but have an offer denied. Or you don’t want to wait last minute to learn there aren’t any homes that excite you in the school district you desire. If you are in rezoning areas but the ruling does not affect you, due to not having kids of school age it could be a great time to sell! You might even see a nice profit! If you would like a FREE HOME VALUATION click here, to schedule one today!
