May signals the start of wonderful festivals and activities unique to Coastal Virginia. Whether you live in Norfolk, Virginia Beach or Chesapeake, there is always something to do as the weather heats up. Here are some of my favorite events happening in May.

American Craft Beer Week  I  May 12- 18

Grab a local craft beer at restaurants and bars throughout Ghent, Norfolk. O’Connor Brewing Co. is kicking off with extended hours, specials casks and a party for the release of SPYHOP. Check it out

Chesapeake Jubilee  I  May 15- 18

You won’t want to miss this action-packed festival that kicks off Thursday, May 15th. There will be live music from Uncle Kracker, Colt Ford and other amazing country music artists. Buy your tickets now for the annual Shrimp Fest and the BBQ Cook-off Competition. Bring the kids out for carnival rides, fireworks and games. Find out more information here.

Norfolk Greek Festival  I  May 15- 18

Sample traditional Greek cuisine as you watch exciting performances at Tidewater’s oldest and largest ethnic festival. Make sure to save room for the Loukoumades or Greek donuts! Bring the whole family and make sure to carpool as parking is limited.

Stockley Gardens Arts Festival  I  May 17 & 18

The Stockley Gardens Arts Festival celebrates 30 years of building community through the arts. The Festival boasts more than 150 artists, children’s activities and entertainment. There’s more to see and do this year as vendors will be stationed along the Hague footbridge as well. Bring the kids out to see the 40-foot Rubber Duck that will be docked in front of the Chrysler Museum. All proceeds go to Hope House Foundation, the only organization in Virginia that serves people with developmental disabilities in their own homes.

Pungo Strawberry Festival  I May 24

HStrawberries-local-bucketeld on Memorial Day weekend, this festival boasts more than 50 ways to eat a strawberry- strawberry funnel cake, strawberry pie, the options are endless. The kids will love the petting farm, the parade and pig races. View more information here.
